The may seem tedious or difficult, but if you do this, we assure you will save a lot of pain later, ensuring a smoother setup of your website. DNS & Name Servers | Before your website can be visible on the Internet, you must register a domain name and configure the DNS (Domain Name Server) registry. In order to signup for a hosting account, you already had to choose a domain name. If you paid for domain registration, when you signed up for your hosting account, you don't need to do a thing. Our system is highly automated and already configured your DNS and names servers for you. You can expect your domain to resolve (take effect) within the next 24-48 hours. If you have your domain registered elsewhere, you will have to change your name servers with your current registrar. You can find the name servers assigned to your account within your account activation email. Each registrar has a different process, so we cannot provide specific instructions on how to change your name servers on all registrars. However, you can see tutorials for most popular registrars here. For assistance, you will need to contact your registrar (the place where you registered your domain name). |
Building Your Web Pages | If you do not already have web development software, we suggest using HTML Kit. This is an excellent program and available free of charge. You can download, read documentation and get support for this program HERE. However, IndicHosts.net is only providing you with information on where to acquire free software, we do not support it in any way. You can also use other software to develop your web pages, such as Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Basic tutorials for both are available on the right panel. You can also build your website with SiteBuilder - This web based program allows you to build your website without any html knowledge. This is available as an add-on to your hosting, on request. |
Uploading Your Files | First, you must obtain FTP software to upload your files to the server. We highly recommend the use of WS-FTP LE or FileZilla which can be acquired HERE free of charge. You can use the FTP client that you prefer, but this is the software that we recommend using. Here is the information you will need to connect using WSFTP: Host Name: This would be your domain IP address Username: This would be your CPanel username Password: This would be your CPanel password Anonymous Login: Make sure this box is NOT checked Initial Directories: Leave this blank Host Type: Set to Auto-detect * You must place your files in the public_html or wwwroot folder and name your main page index.html or default.asp or index.php or default.aspx or index.cfm as applicable. |
Setting Up Email Accounts | To setup an email account, login to Cpanel and follow these simple steps: - Click [Mail] - Click [Add/Remove Accounts] - Click [Add Account] The next page is self-explanatory. For the email option you would enter a username. Then select a password and set a quota. The quota is the maximum amount of disk space the account can use. The quota field is optional, so you can leave blank. Now, you will want to access your email account to send/receive emails. To do this you can either use web-mail or an email client. We recommend using Outlook Express, which is included with Microsoft Windows. To learn how to setup Outlook Express, you will need these settings: Mail Server: POP3 POP3 Server: mail.yourdomain.com (replace with your domain name) SMTP Server: mail.yourdomain.com (replace with your domain name) Enable Authentication of SMTP server: Use the same settings as the incoming mail server Account Name: user@yourdomain.com (Use your full email address) Password: This is the password for the above email account You can access web-mail at http://yourdomain.com/webmail. It will ask for a username and password to login. The username would be a full email address and the password would be the password for that email account. Notice: Email will not work until your domain has resolved!
