Website is hosted on a load balanced cluster with services spread-over two server appliances. Therein each service (httpd, mysqld, pop and exim) has multiple points of hardware & software failure. Network load is distributed aross two servers, one web-server and one database server. Each server stores a real-time copy of all web site data.
System runs a fail-over application that checks the servers every 5 seconds. If a server or service is not responding, our application will automatically switch over requests of all services to the available server. Thereby minimizing down-time and maintaining data integrity. Once the 'not responding' server is restored, services are switched back to the load-balanced configuration. Thus, your website remains insulated from single point of hardware or software failure.
