How to upgrade
the Moodle version of your website
Please, follow the two steps,
listed below, in order to upgrade the Moodle
version of your e-learning website
Step 1.
Create a backup
Make
a separate copy of the whole
'Moodle' directory files before making
the upgrade, so that you can retrieve your 'config.php'
file and any modules you have added like themes,
languages etc.
NB: It is Mandatory
to make a backup copy of the
'Moodledata' direcory.
This is where uploaded content resides (such
as course resources and student assignments)
so it is very important to have a backup of
these files. Sometimes upgrades may move or
rename directories within your data directory.
Most
Moodle upgrades will alter the database tables,
adding or changing table fields. Each database
has different ways to backup. Please use the
phpMyAdmin tool from the cPanel to "Export"
your database.
Step 2. Do
the Moodle upgrade:
Overwrite
the files in the current 'Moodle' directory
with the new version's ones, then go to http://yourdomain.com/moodle/admin
and follow the Next -> Next -> Next procedure.
It doesn't matter if you are logged in as admin
or not, Moodle will automatically detect the
new version and perform all the database or
file-system upgrades that are necessary.
If
there is anything it can't do by itself (very
rare) then you will see error messages telling
you what you need to do. Assuming all goes well
(no error messages appear) then you can start
using your new version of Moodle and enjoy the
new features!
