Mailing list: What is confirmed opt-in?

Last updated 2025-06-08

What is a Confirmed Opt-In?

Confirmed Opt-In (also called Verified Opt-In) is a process where someone joining your email list confirms they want to receive your messages by clicking a special link sent to their inbox.

How It Works:

  1. A person signs up to your list using a form, through a purchase, or via an import from another service.
  2. They will receive a confirmation email with a unique link.
  3. They must click on the link to confirm their subscription.
  4. Once confirmed, they will be added as an active subscriber and will start receiving your emails.

If they do not click the link, they won’t be added to your list and will not receive any future emails.

This process helps to make sure that only people who really want your emails are subscribed, which improves deliverability and reduces spam complaints.
